Early Wednesday morning. I am sitting on the bus, on my way to work, my head tilted against the window and my eyes closed as I am listening to romantic songs on my iPod.

I usually read on my way to work, or send text messages to my friends, fully alert and ready for the day ahead of me, but not today. Today is one of those days when I don't feel like waking up, I know I will eventually, when I get into the office and engage my mind, but not yet. I am taking the time of my commute to dream and be lost in my own world, far away from reality. Just a few more minutes. "Take my breath away" is blasting in my ears; I don't hear people around me and I don't pay much attention.

At my stop, I get off the bus, take the headphones from my ears and walk towards the agency where I work, chatting with my colleague. The bus leaves. I offer to carry the tray with coffees as she has full hands and I am not carrying anything except my purse hanging over my shoulder. It's a nice sunny morning; it's going to be a nice day and I am slowly coming back from my dreamy world to reality, getting mentally ready for the day.

As I enter my office, ready to make my own coffee and get something to eat.I realize I don't have my breakfast, because it is in the bag and the bag.I left it on the bus!

I am awake now for sure. I quickly scan the content of the bag in my mind..Clothes, food, a book from the library, andoh no.couple of cheques with a significant amount of money. Quick, quick, thinkwhat to dono one could deposit the cheques except me, still, I think about the hassle I will have to go throughfrom admitting that I have lost the cheques to waiting for the new ones to be issued.

I follow the first idea that comes to my mind, not knowing exactly what to do, and I run outside the building, just as I am, having my office door left open, no purse, no cell phone, with nothing on me. The bus stop is right in front of the building. I get on the first bus that arrives and explain the bus driver that I left a bag with important documents on a bus that came a few minutes before him.

The driver is immediately willing to help and I see he is thinking fast trying to come up with a solution. I am glad he doesn't just tell me to call the Lost and Found.

(I already lost a pair of high heels don't ask, just one of those morningsagain)

"Come with me!" he says: "I'll take you to the final station, maybe we'll catch up with him. I'll call the dispatch"

"I have nothing on me, no bus pass, no money" I say: "I left my office open, I didn't say anything to anyone at work". I am thinking fast, what should I do? It feels weird to be riding on the bus with no purse or cell phone.

"Don't worry, I'll give you a transfer to get back".I smile at the comicality of the situation, nevertheless I hop on the bus, and off we go.He calls the dispatch, describes my bag, they page all buses.and a few streets later they call backI am lucky! The driver from the first bus called in and he has my bag! Some sweetheart passenger turned it in!

Before he lets me off shortly after, the driver tells me to wait for the original bus that will now be going the opposite direction. "Thank you so much! You are an angel!" I say: "You made my day!" "No problem." He smiles.

I wait a few more minutes and there it is the bus from this morning, with the other driver and my bag next to him. He recognizes me. I thank him as well, get on the bus going back and soon I am back in the office. The morning is going on as usual; no one has even noticed I was missing, riding busses back and forth. I have my cheques AND my breakfast

I have decided to share this story to show you that there are people out there with good hearts and morals. There are people out there who are willing to help. I think we should all keep this in mind and try giving back by simply being kind or offer to help. A small kind gesture can go a long way.

Janka thanks for sharing a great story and I am glad to see things worked out ok for you.  It is nice to be on both the receiving and giving side of assistance.  I wouldn't be surprised if each of the participants involved (you, driver 1, driver 2, and the commuter that turned in your bag) all got a boost from this experience.  Thanks for sharing and helping my day start off on a good note.  Now maybe I should get back to work.  Welcome to Searchwarp and keep posting....you have a lovely voice....also try the readers club...it is a good way to meet others in the community.

Janka, you are so correct, "there are people out there with good hearts and morals." Somehow, because you shared this with us, I believe you are one of those people also. Why? Who else would take the time to find this important? You are alright in my book. Thanks.
